Happy Fifth, Xbox 360: Here's Five Original Xbox Indies that are Must-Buys!

Happy birthday, Xbox 360! It's been five years since we waited hours in line to buy you along with CoD2 and Kameo. I'll be perfectly honest, my fondest memory of the console was when I held the controller in my hand for the first time. I agree the d-pad is awful, but otherwise the 360 controller is my favorite of all time, beating out the SNES and Dual-Shock1. To celebrate the joyous occasion, xIndies has brought you five Indies that first released on the service that should be in your collection. Hit the break for a blast from the past!

5.sin(Surfing) (80 MSP or $1)
sin(Surfing) was a simple, cheap game that was fun to play. Anybody could hop in and enjoy this title. This made the list because, when it first released, you could not find anything like it on the 360 or any other current game console.

Ever wished you could surf inside an oscilloscope? Well now you can! Play sin(Surfing) now with this 360 version of the TIGSource Procedural Generation Compo entry by twohalf and Sifu Peng!

4.Colosseum (400 MSP or $5)
I chose Colosseum because it was one of the first titles to show what could come out of the Indie games. It was a beautiful game. Ultimately, a repetitious hack-and-slash gameplay hampered the game's success, but, especially at the $5 price tag, I would recommend a second look.

Fight your way to the glorious Grand Master title! Colosseum features a 6-level singleplayer-campaign and five different 1-4 player local multiplayer game modes, four of which can be enjoyed in teams. Take your time to master each of the four different fighting styles and their combos, picking up some new threads for your characters along the way. This is Colosseum. Enjoy!

3. Biology Battle (400 MSP or $5)
Biology Battle was costly, but came with production values of XBLA games such as Geometry Wars. This was also one of the first Indie titles to have online leaderboards. A fun dual stick shooter, I believe this game wasn't as successful as it could have been because it didn't do enough different to separate it from what was already available. Also, I think price was an issue as well. However, it is now only $5 and a bargain if you can't get enough of Indie shooters.

The Award winning Biology Battle! Come play XBLCG's highest rated Dual Stick Shooter, the original and competitive SURVIVAL MODE or the 11 PARTY GAMES! Biology Battle is a modern, fast-paced take on the action arcade genre. Fight for topscore in our online challenge, or battle your friends through 12 unique 'party game' modes. v1.93

2. Being (80 MSP or $1)
Being was one of the first platformers on the service and was quite enjoyable. Major complaints with this was that the length of gameplay was too short. However, with the updated prices in effect, Being is now only 80 MSP and is a fun platforming experience.

Can you help this little red guy save the princess, save the world, or whatever else it is that he's doing? I'm sure it's important work.

1. Weapon of Choice (400 MSP or $5)
Must-buy game, Weapon of Choice, was one of the first impulse buys for me. With a beautiful art style and fun Contra-ish, run and gun gameplay, this was the Indie Game to have until Z0MB1ES became all the rage. I can't recommend this game enough.

INSANE ACTION and HUMONGOUS ALIENS tied together by a TWISTED STORY. Branching levels, 4 unique endings, 7 characters each with a Weapon of Choice. Reap revenge with the Vengeance Missile. Cheat death with Deathbrushing! Scale walls with the Spiderpack. Rock out to original, blistering metal guitar tracks. New Controls, SIX DIFFICULTIES! Third Place in Microsoft’s Dream Build Play 2008. v.1.08
